Egypt - Day 7 - Friday, August 7th

Cock-a-doodle --- Oh, who am I kidding? The sun wasn't up when we had to leave this morning. In fact, John wasn't even up when Mr. S. woke up and went to breakfast. John just rolled back to sleep and didn't get up until 15 minutes before we had to leave! He didn't even eat breakfast. Doesn't he realize that I need food? I was ready to complain when he put me in his bag and we left the room. Oh, great! Another ride in the bag!

We left our hotel around 5 AM. It was pitch black and there was no one around. The road in front of us was a straight line south. The sun rose around 6 AM but I didn't notice it, so I couldn't welcome it to the day with a "cock-a-doodle-doo" like I'm used to doing. Once it rose, I noticed the scenery was brown and dusty. Again, my favorite type of landscape!

Psst ... Ellen, wake up! Rise and shine, precious! HEY!!!!!! I said "WAKE UP!!!!!!" If you don't wake up, John will take your picture. She's not waking up, John. Take her picture.

She woke up right after he took the picture. Silly humans!

We arrived at Abu Simbel around 8 AM. I was very glad we got there at that time, as the sun was already getting high in the sky, broasting me. Hopefully we're not here for too long? We're here for 3 hours? Well, then let's get moving!

First we saw the temple of Abu Simbel. This was another temple they had to move when they built the dam. Apparently they moved a lot of stuff because of that dam. I hope it was worth it!

As we approached the entrance to the temple, I noticed some statues that looked very familiar to me. Is that cousin Horus I see? It is!!!

I asked him how the family was, how the weather has been since he's moved to Egypt, how people were treating him, etc. He's not a big talker, but he's an excellent listener!

After hanging out with Horus, I went over and spent some time at Queen Nefertari's temple. Even though there are 4 statues of Ramses II and only 2 of her, it's still her temple!

OK, I've seen the temple for Ramses II, visited with Horus, and gazed in wonder at Nefertari's temple. Anything else to do here? Anything? No. Fine. I'm going for a swim.

Before I could do a swan dive into Lake Nasser, John grabbed me and said we were leaving. Fine! I'll go swimming when we get back to the hotel. Hey, John. I'm hungry. Got any food in that sack lunch they gave you? Just some cheese? Fine, I'll eat that.

The bus ride was another 2 1/2 hours back to our hotel. John slept for most of it and I regretted eating the cheese for all of it. It did NOT sit well with my stomach! I was ready to puke up my gizzard when we got to the hotel. Don't put me in the ... Too late. John put me in the bag. Surprisingly, that helped my stomach. However, John's snoring didn't help me sleep. He sure does sleep a lot! I don't know what they did for the rest of the day, but I slept. An upset stomach sure does make me drowsy. I wonder what Horus takes to stay "regulated"? I'll have to ask him if I see him again. Tomorrow we ride a camel! I can't wait!
